HOW TO JOIN CECA

A regular membership in the CECA organization requires a valid Certificate of Proficiency in Amateur Radio.  However, this is not the only way to become a member.  Associate membership is available for those wishing to contribute as a volunteer but do not have the requisite amateur radio Certificate of Proficiency.  Applications for Associate membership would be discussed on a case-by-case basis.  In addition, there are honourary and life memberships of which both are by appointment made by the CECA Executive.

CECA members are included within the emergency program for both the City of Nanaimo, the Regional District of Nanaimo and Provincial Emergency Radio Communications.  Members have access to information, locations and facilities not accessible by the general public and therefore a criminal record check (CRC is a prerequisite to joining.

  1.  When a prospective member (Applicant) contacts CECA, either by filing in the contact form from the website or by word-of-mouth, a designated CECA representative will respond and advise of the requirement for a CRC before proceeding further. The designated CECA representative will provide the Applicant with instructions on how to complete the process of becoming a member. The completed the CRC is then delivered to the Emergency Program Manager at the City of Nanaimo for review.
  2. Once the CRC has been reviewed and, if found satisfactory, the Applicant will be contacted by the CECA representative who will forward an application form for completion by the Applicant.
  3. Once received, the completed application will be formally reviewed by the CECA Executive at their subsequent monthly meeting.  The applicant will be advised as to acceptance, or not, and provided further information as applicable.
